Abstract

Title:Partner's role in the physical activity during pregnancy
Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate partner's role in the physical activity of pregnant woman. We compared the physical activity of pregnant women based on the amount of support they receive from their partners and the extent to which their partners engage in physical activity. Additionally, we investigated whether partners change the type and frequency of their physical activity during pregnancy and how pregnancy affects their exercise habits. This quantitative study was based on an online survey, completed by 205 pregnant women with partners from different regions of Slovenia. The questionnaire was distributed via social networks (Facebook forums, emails), personal recommendations and distributed at the obstetrics and gynaecology department of the Jesenice General Hospital. Partner support was significantly correlated with physical activity of pregnant woman. Those who received more encouragement, tended to be more physically active and more likely to follow exercise recommendations during pregnancy. The study revealed that pregnant women whose partners participated in sports more often, spent more time per week in physical activities. While the frequency of partner's exercise decreased during pregnancy, there were no statistically significant changes in the type of physical activity they engaged in. During the transition to parenthood or pregnancy, mutual support plays an important role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle for both partners. Partner support plays a crucial role in sustaining physical activity during pregnancy. Therefore, it is important to dedicate more attention to programs that encourage joint physical activity for couples during pregnancy and parenthood. Future research should further investigate the long-term impact of partner involvement in physical activity on the family’s overall lifestyle and well-being.
