The master’s thesis entitled Conceptual design of a sensory kindergarten in Kamnik addresses the problem of a degraded area in the city center of Kamnik, and seeks possibilities for its revitalization by placing a new sensory kindergarten and accompanying cultural programs. The thesis arises from the need to improve the quality of life, provide new kindergarten capacities, and revitalize the city center. The theoretical part discusses the importance of sensory architecture in designing a space for children, with an emphasis on sensory perception, movement, and experiential learning. It also analyzes the pedagogical approaches of Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Waldorf, which highlight the importance of space as an educational tool.
The project part of the thesis develops a conceptual design of a sensory kindergarten, based on the stimulation of all five senses - sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste. The design includes the renovation of an existing abandoned building and the creation of new spatial units that enable flexible use, movement, exploration, and learning.
