Abstract

Title:
Conceptual design for revitalization of Ski jumping center Ilirija
Abstract:
In my thesis, I address the issue of inadequate infrastructure at the Ilirija Ski Jumping center. The intervention is driven by insufficient capacity of indoor training facilities and the current spatial arrangement, which lacks proper accessibility and does not ensure functional utilization of the area. Through minor interventions, I introduce an urbanistic separation between public and private access to the building and other outdoor training areas. The placement of the new intervention is a result of detailed analyses of surrounding factors and a conceptually structured hierarchy of the sports activity flow. In its final form, the building adapts to the imposing presence of the ski jumps, opens up access points, and creates a reflection of the outdoor training spaces. IIn a broader context, the revitalization of the selected area is only part of the smaller planned and already implemented interventions. It joins the point network of recreational activities, which are designed through architecture and landscaped natural space within the Tivoli Rožnik and Šišenski hrib landscape park. Recreation as the dominant use of space requires continuity of appropriate development, and the broader context tends to connect the point initiatives into a coherent whole.
