Biological plant protection has become increasingly important, as it is a suitable alternative to chemical control. In biological control, useful organisms are used to suppress harmful organisms and at the same time do not harm people and the plants themselves. Among them is also the antagonistic fungus Trichoderma asperellum used in this research. The cottony soft rot (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) is a plant disease that is very problematic in the production of economically important plants. In the research, we used different combinations/treatments with the pathogen isolate and the biotic preparation in a pot experiment with lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) of the ´Eole´ variety, as we were interested in the impact of our chosen biotic preparation on the development of lettuce, and on inhibition of infection with the pathogen. In the experiment, we used the biotic preparation Trifender® Pro, which contains fungus T. asperellum T34. In the research, we confirmed that the addition of a biotic preparation affects minimally on the growth of lettuce. It was noted that the preparation partially prevents the development of cottony soft rot disease.
