Finland, a country born in the chaos of the First World War and the October Revolution, was from the very beginning conceived in a time of conflict and then plunged into a civil war, in which the great European powers interfered out of their own geopolitical interests. The Finnish territory in the 20th century was tainted by the unwilling division of spheres of influence, entrapement between superpowers and their geopolitical interests. This work will attempt to gain a deeper insight into the history and geopolitics of the Finnish space, its special position and role in world politics. Today, Finland is a signatory to the NATO pact, a document that has existed since 1949, and the main cause for their change in security policy was the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Why this change from traditional neutrality occurred must be sought in modern politics as well as in their history. The deep dive in their history will have a multi aspect approach with greater emphasis on diplomacy, economics and the military. The main periods since Finland's creation have had important developmental decisions, which have led to the current position and shaped the country as we know it. The reasons for their current
state of affairs must be sought in historical development throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.
