The thesis discusses the preventive protection of exhibits in museums and galleries. The introduction defines the concept of preventive conservation, presents its' main areas and outlines the risk factors, that affect the state of the exhibits. The thesis also provides general guidelines and measures used in museums and galleries all over the world to ensure proper protection of presented items before, during and after their exhibition. The first, theoretical part of the thesis is supported with the case of the Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana (MGML) institution, which presents three exhibitions at three separate locations. Described within the theoretical part are conservative and restorative approaches as well as preventive measures used to ensure the protection of exhibited items. The second, practical part of the thesis presents a case study and instructions for preventive care of two plaster casts of Atlantes that have stood in the lobby of the City Museum of Ljubljana for at least 40 years.
