For centuries, topographic maps have been a key source of spatial data for a variety of purposes such as navigation, spatial planning, hiking and defence. Each country has its own rules for the production, design, and distribution of national topographic maps. In this master thesis we analysed the current state of topographic maps in Slovenia, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. The focus is on a comparison of the renewal of maps, the resources for their renewal and their accessibility, which provides an insight into the differences and common challenges in the management of the topographic data in these countries.
