In the master’s thesis, reading groups in the areas of two central regional libraries—the Maribor Library and the Ivan Potrč Ptuj Library—are examined. We investigated the number of reading groups in public and secondary school libraries within this region. A survey conducted among reading group moderators provided data on the characteristics of the reading groups (location, time limits and duration of meetings, membership composition, activities, presence on social media) as well as on the characteristics of the moderators (gender, age, education, experience, librarian certification, skills and knowledge, training, and the perceived importance of the reading group). The survey was distributed among the moderators of identified reading groups, and data were collected between June 16, 2025, and July 15, 2025. Based on the collected data, we addressed four research questions regarding the number of reading groups in public libraries in the areas of the Maribor Library and the Ivan Potrč Ptuj Library, as well as the number of reading groups in secondary school libraries in the same region. The focus was placed on reading groups in grammar schools and vocational secondary schools. The findings show that reading groups in secondary school and public libraries are very similar, differing mainly in terms of meeting duration, membership composition, and the moderators themselves. The results of the research can contribute to further studies in other regions or serve as a basis for improving existing reading groups.
