The graduate thesis titled Designing the Clothing Collection High Society Clowns showcases the design process of conceptualising and creating a contemporary fashion collection.
The aim of my diploma thesis is to create a clothing collection that combines clown aesthetics, elements of high fashion, and emotional expression. The collection tells the story of a breakup and offers a social critique of modern relationships. This goal is achieved by blending elements of clowncore aesthetics with emotional storytelling, while also presenting my personal design style.
In the theoretical part of my thesis, I explore different clown costumes throughout history, the representation of clowns in fashion, the meaning of modern social norms, and how we deal with emotions and relationships in current time.
In the experimental part, I present my process of conceptualising and creating the collection. The final result is a modern, fashionable clothing collection presented in six silhouettes. Throughout the collection, different emotions are expressed through the visualisation of the silhouettes. The emotional states or situations addressed include infatuation, doubt, sadness, vulnerability, confidence, happiness, and self-love. Clowns serve as a strong visual inspiration, as well as carriers of emotional depth and social commentary.
The goal of the collection is to evoke empathic feelings and allow people to relate to the topics addressed.
