Abstract

Title:Production of artificial snow inside a climatic chamber
Abstract:
In recent years, it has become increasingly evident that global warming and climate change are occurring. A trend of decreasing snow cover thickness and shortening of winter seasons has been observed, which negatively impacts the existence of glaciers, vegetation, and areas dependent on winter tourism. Therefore, methods for preserving snow cover thickness and the duration of the winter season are being actively researched. As part of the master’s thesis, a review of artificial snow production methods was conducted, and an experimental system was designed to evaluate the influence of individual parameters on its production. A parametric study was carried out to investigate the effect of compressed air and water pressure, and ambient temperature on artificial snow production. A calorimetric method was used to determine snow quality. The results show that increasing compressed air pressure improved the quality of the artificial snow produced. In most cases, an increase in water pressure increased the mass of the artificial snow produced, while the quality decreased. Furthermore, lowering the ambient air temperature generally led to the production of greater quantity of higher-quality artificial snow.
