The privatization era has ushered in significant shifts in priorities, particularly in less developed regions where social welfare and cultural vitality often take a back seat to commercial interests. This paradigm shift is evident in the fate of Prilep’s Sports Airport, once a bustling hub of sports and recreational activities, now a desolate symbol of neglect. However, amidst this decline lies an opportunity for transformation and revitalization.
This thesis proposes a comprehensive strategy to breathe new life into Prilep’s Sports Airport, leveraging its historical significance and strategic location to become a beacon of progress in the region. Through in-depth research and semi-structured interviews with stakeholders, critical insights were obtained, producing the necessary changes for achieving this ambitious goal.
The envisioned transformation encompasses three key pillars: enhancing operational efficiency, fostering community engagement, and embracing technological innovation. By improving infrastructure and amenities, integrating modern programming to attract a diverse visitor base, and undertaking a holistic renovation of existing structures with a focus on functional, symbolic, and iconic architectural design, the airport can evolve into a vibrant center for sports aviation activities.
Central to this revitalization effort is a commitment to sustainability and inclusivity, ensuring that the benefits extend beyond the confines of the airport to enrich the broader community. Through strategic partnerships, stakeholder collaboration, and a forward-thinking approach, Prilep’s Sports Airport has the potential to emerge as a model of sustainable development, harnessing the power of aviation to propel the region toward a prosperous future.
