Abstract
The thesis investigates how urban building codes shape the morphology of Athens, a city defined by historical layering, cultural continuity, and unregulated urban expansion. It questions whether codified design limits urban character or enables more sustainable forms of growth. Drawing on principles of green urbanism, new building codes were developed and tested to address contemporary needs. It demonstrates the multiscale impact of regulation, showing how codes influence neighbourhood density, building configuration, and even apartment layouts, while mediating relationships between public and private space. Findings reveal the dual role of urban codes: providing spatial clarity and resilience while constraining architectural diversity. The research positions coding as a critical framework for balancing environmental performance, social interaction, and urban legibility.

Abstract:
Ta diplomska naloga raziskuje, kako urbani gradbeni predpisi oblikujejo morfologijo Aten, mesta, zaznamovanega z zgodovinskimi plastenji, kulturno kontinuiteto in pretežno neregulirano urbanistično širitev.
