In my master's thesis, I researched the composition of the Lower Miocene sponge-ostreid li-mestone at Dobrna. Limestone forms gray, dark gray, brown to slightly reddish massive bioc-lastic calcarenite to calcrudite with macroscopically recognizable ostreid shells and sponge skeletons. Seven microfacies were identified: one represents the Triassic base on which the limestone is discordantly deposited, one represents the erosional base of the limestone, and the remaining five represent the sponge-ostreid limestone itself. Sedimentation took place in a shallow, high-energy subtidal marine environment. Ostreid shells form accumulations that were deposited in several phases and whose scope varied. Similar ostreid accumulations of Karpathian age are not yet known from the Central Paratethys.
