Abstract
V nasprotju z večinskim lojalizmom v monarhiji so slovenski izseljenci v ZDA že zgodaj razpravljali o razpadu cesarstva in o alternativnih političnih ureditvah.

Title:Changing attitudes of the slovenian immigrant community in the USA toward the Habsburg monarchy (1905-1918) in the newspaper Glas naroda
Abstract:
The subject of this thesis is The Changing Attitudes of the Slovenian Immigrant Community in the United States towards the Habsburg Monarchy between 1905 and 1918 in the Newspaper Glas naroda. Before the First World War, the paper mainly reported on domestic politics and electoral reform in Austria-Hungary, keeping a relatively moderate tone. With the outbreak of the war, however, it adopted a strongly anti-Austrian and anti-German stance, expressed sympathies toward Serbia, and increasingly promoted the Yugoslav idea. In contrast to the prevailing loyalty within the Monarchy, Slovene immigrants in the U.S. engaged early in debates about its disintegration and possible alternative political arrangements. The dissertation shows how Glas naroda, together with immigrant organizations, played an important role in shaping political awareness and national identity among Slovenian emigrants during the transition from the Habsburg framework to the Yugoslav state.
