In this thesis, I will investigate the role of cosmological elements in Goguryeo tomb art. The aim of the thesis is to explore the historical-philosophical background and symbolism of these elements. The central research question is how cosmology is depicted in Goguryeo tomb art. Accordingly, the main body of this thesis will delve into the study of the cosmological motifs commonly depicted on the walls and ceilings of tombs from this era, emphasizing both their symbolic significance and their role within the broader context of tomb art. In order to ensure a more holistic approach, I will briefly summarize the history of the Goguryeo kingdom in the introductory chapters. I will also provide some basic information about Goguryeo tombs with murals and describe their characteristics. In addition, I will investigate from which philosophical traditions the cosmological elements that appear in tomb art originate. I will also ask how cosmology is related to the afterlife of the deceased person. I will write about this in a chapter where I will define cosmology and explore cosmological doctrine. In the conclusion, I will present the main findings with which I will answer the posed research questions.
