Otok near Dobrava is today a completely abandoned medieval urban settlement on the Krka River in south-east Slovenia. In the Middle Ages, the Frieising market town of Gutenwerd was located here, which was destroyed and abandoned during an Ottoman raid in 1473. This master's thesis analyses a selected collection of pottery from the central part of the site (Excavation field 2), which was discovered during excavations between 1972 and 1976. The thesis aims to re-evaluate the material and investigate the hypothesis of local pottery production. The thesis is divided into three main sections. The first section describes the topography, geography, geology and history; the second section provides a typological and macroscopic analysis of the ceramic assemblage, while the third section is dedicated to the archaeometric analysis of selected pottery fragments and clay samples.
