Abstract

Title:Analysis of Ljubljana's urban heat island
Abstract:
The thesis addresses the influence of weather factors on the intensity of the urban heat island (UHI) in Ljubljana in the period 2020–2022. The UHI manifests as higher temperatures in the city centre compared to its rural surroundings, with the phenomenon being most pronounced during the night and early morning hours. The aim of the research was to determine how fog, precipitation, and wind affect the intensity of the UHI. Data from several meteorological stations were used and analysed using the online application Google Sheets, calculating temperature differences between the city and its outskirts. A literature review found that the intensity of the UHI in Ljubljana ranges between approximately 2.5 °C and 7 °C. The results showed that fog and precipitation significantly influence the UHI intensity, with the difference being 0.7 °C in foggy conditions and only 0.3 °C during precipitation. Wind, on the other hand, had no decisive impact due to a large portion of calm conditions and prevailing weak winds in Ljubljana, resulting in practically no temperature difference between the city and its outskirts. The findings contribute to a better understanding of the microclimate in urban environments and can serve as a basis for planning adaptation measures in the future.
