The thesis examines Zofka Kveder’s novel Njeno življenje from a linguistic- stylistic perspective, with a focus on the role and function of subordinate clauses. In the theoretical part, the life and work of Zofka Kveder as well as the genesis, reception and content of Njeno življenje are presented. This is followed by an overview of linguistic stylistics and subordinate clauses as defined by Jože Toporišič and Mojca Smolej. The empirical part is based on an analysis of three selected chapters, which reveals a varied syntax functionally adapted to the content of the novel. In addition to simple and two-clause sentences, complex hypotactic structures (object, temporal, manner, comparative, result, purpose, conditional, concessive and attributive clauses) predominate. The analysis of sentence structure has shown that the novel intertwines simple, two-clause, and more complex multi-clause sentences, while the syntax is functionally connected with the content.
