Martin Johann Schmidt in njegova povezava z mestom Kranj s poudarkom na sliki Priprošnjiki proti kugi : zaključna seminarska naloga

Zaključna seminarska naloga obravnava sliko Priprošnjiki proti kugi, ki je delo Martina Johanna Kremser-Schmidta, narejena pa je bila za p. c. sv. Boštjana, Fabijana in Roka na Pungertu v Kranju. Slika je iz leta 1773, ko je bil Kremser-Schmidt na vrhuncu svoje umetniške moči. Kdo je bil povezava med Schmidtom in Kranjem, se ne ve, vendar se kot najverjetnejšega posrednika omenja jezuita Gabriela Gruberja. Posebnost slike je v dramatični kompoziciji, značilni diagonalni osvetlitvi in ikonografiji treh svetnikov, ki posredujejo med trpečimi in nebeškim kraljestvom. Pomembno je tudi, da je delo močno vplivalo na Leopolda Layerja, ki je večkrat prevzel Schmidtove motive in svetlobne rešitve, s čimer je slika postala ključen umetnostni vzor.

• Title: Martin Johann Schmidt and his connection to the town of Kranj with a focus on the painting Interceding for the Plague

Abstract

The final seminar paper examines the painting Intercessors against the Plague, a work by Martin Johann Kremser-Schmidt, created for the parish church of St. Sebastian, Fabian and Rochus at Pungert in Kranj. The painting, dated 1773, was produced at the height of Kremser-Schmidt’s artistic career. The precise link between Schmidt and Kranj remains unknown, though the Jesuit Gabriel Gruber is mentioned as the most likely intermediary. The painting stands out for its dramatic composition, characteristic diagonal lighting, and iconography of three saints mediating between the suffering and the heavenly realm. Significantly, it strongly influenced Leopold Layer, who repeatedly adopted Schmidt’s motifs and treatment of light, making the painting an essential artistic model.
