Patriotism and the image of Austrian Carinthia in the poetry of Fran Eller
The thesis employs an interpretative-analytical method to examine the motif of patriotism and the image of Austrian Carinthia in the poetic oeuvre of the Carinthian-Slovenian poet Fran Eller. The focus lies on his poetry collection entitled Koroške pesmi, which represents that part of the author's poetry that refers specifically to Carinthian or Carinthian-related motifs. His poetry, which flourished between the First and Second World Wars, explores themes such as nature, people and creatures from Slovenian folklore, love, the poetic vocation and death, in addition to the ever-present patriotic sentiment and the pain of the loss of identity among the Carinthian Slovenians. The selection for analysis and interpretation includes six poems from the cycle Klic izpod Jepe and two sonnets from the cycle Soneti.
