Abstract

Title:The second world war in Slovene territory through the poetry of Karel Destovnik - Kajuh and France Balantič
Abstract:
The events of the second world war in Slovene territory were also reflected in contemporary slovenian poetry, especially in the works of Karel Destovnik - Kajuh (1922–1944) and France Balantič (1921–1943). This thesis presents an overview of the period of slovenian history following the partition of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia during the second world war, the repressive policies of the occupying axis powers and the formation of the resistance movement under the leadership of the OF. Special focus is given to the area of Ljubljanska pokrajina and the initial occupation by italian forces in the years 1941–1943, as well as later activity of german forces in this area until 1945. In the context of the second world war the thesis also focuses on the political issues of the period and the question of civil war (especially from 1942 onward) between the opposing factions. Secondly, taking the background of historical context into account, the thesis also presents the cultural field, as well as the literary field contained within it, in which the lyrical body of work of both mentioned authors is contained. Both authors shared a tragic fate and have found themselves figuratively (in the light of academic studies) and literally on the opposing "banks" or sides of history, had different receptions of their work after the war and of course took different paths and poetical developments.
