In my diploma thesis, I explored the relationship between the Self, the camera, and its image. I am interested in the moment of confronting one’s own image - in the mirror, in front of the camera, or in the reflection of water and the dissonance between the inner perception of oneself and its external representation. I address the limitations of language and images as media, which always entail a loss and a distancing from the original experience. I analyse how the desire to control one’s own image in the media, on social networks, and in art can lead to a sense of emptiness or to questioning the very existence of the Self.
In the practical part, I present works created from various materials, unified by the desert sand. Through the photographic self-portrait, which evolves into assemblage and intermedia installation, I explore the materialisation and transformation of my own image.
