The thesis Design and Production of a Promotional Video addresses the process of creating a promotional film, from the initial concept developed in collaboration with the client to the final publication of the video content. The aim of the project is to present, in an accessible way, an online platform that connects tourists with local masters of traditional crafts.
The choice of multiple filming locations introduced the challenge of achieving visual consistency between three different interiors and an exterior evening shoot. To address this, a single lens with a predetermined focal length and aperture value was used. This approach helped to establish the visual identity of the project, as both focal length and aperture determine the depth of field and the perspective of the image.
Since the video aimed to convey feelings of relaxation, accessibility, dynamism, and intimacy, filming was carried out without the use of mechanical stabilization. Instead of tripods or other stabilizing devices, the footage was captured handheld. The camera was stabilized through body movement, while smaller unwanted shakes were reduced with the use of a shoulder rig and a so-called camera saddle, which allowed the camera to be steadied while held in the lap.
The final outcome of the thesis is a video that presents three different types of workshops in an engaging, relaxed, and familiar manner. Above all, the video highlights people who are enjoying themselves and laughing while learning new skills. The video is structured around four distinct locations, each representing a different working environment used by masters of local and traditional crafts.
