Abstract
Za iskanje literature smo uporabili naslednje ključne besede: heart failure (srčno popuščanje), nursing (zdravstvena nega), self-care, nursing role (vloga medicinskih sester), patient education (zdravstvena vzgoja), healthcare (zdravstvena oskrba), kakovost življenja (quality of life).

Title:The role of the nurse in the care of a patient with heart failure : diploma work
Abstract:
Introduction: Heart failure is a chronic disease that affects millions of people worldwide and poses a major challenge to the healthcare system. Managing heart failure requires a comprehensive approach that, from the very beginning, includes continuous monitoring of lifestyle factors as well as ongoing patient education. Purpose: The purpose of this thesis is to identify the role of nurses in patients with heart failure and to assess the quality of life of patients with heart failure through a review of professional and scientific literature. The goal is to obtain scientific evidence on key nursing interventions in the care of patients with heart failure. Methods: A review of professional and scientific literature was carried out. Both Slovene and English sources on the role of nurses in patients with heart failure were used, obtained from bibliographic databases such as CINAHL, MEDLINE, PubMed, and DiKUL. Additional sources included articles from the Slovenian Medical Association journal Zdravstveni vestnik. Inclusion criteria were literature published between 2014 and 2024, written in English, Slovene, German, and French, and consisting of original research and review articles. Literature was searched using the following keywords: heart failure, nursing, self-care, nursing role, patient education, healthcare, quality of life. Results: Nurses caring for patients with heart failure are responsible for: comprehensive nursing care, symptom management, patient education and counseling, developing new approaches to reduce hospital readmissions, reducing morbidity, and improving the quality of life for individuals with heart failure. Discussion and Conclusion: The studies reviewed demonstrate positive effects of patient education on clinical outcomes such as readmission and mortality, as well as on the quality of life of patients with heart failure. s.
