The master’s thesis explores the South White Carniolan dialect, which synchronically belongs to the Lower Carniolan dialect group. It presents newly collected dialect material from selected villages along the Kolpa River, where a genealogical connection with the Kajkavian dialect of the Croatian language is being examined. The dialect data collected in the field is compared with speech varieties on the Croatian side of the Slovenian-Croatian border, which are classified as part of the Kajkavian dialect group. The theoretical part provides a brief overview of previous linguistic research on the dialects of White Carniola, as well as geographical influences that have shaped dialect changes in the region. It also highlights key features and differences between individual speech varieties. The empirical part describes the process of collecting and processing the material. This is followed by a short introduction of each informant and the four villages studied: Srednji Radenci, Sodevci, Dečina and Prelesje. A linguistic description of the local dialects is then provided, based on the extensive new material gathered in the field. The main phonological features are presented, supporting the classification of these dialects as transitional. A dialect inventory and distribution are included, along with a table showing the main phonetic outcomes. For comparison, material from the control point Blaževci is included. This location is classified among the Eastern Goran dialects of the Kajkavian group. The final summary outlines the key findings of the research.
