Abstract
V magistrski nalogi se osredotočam na metodologijo dela pri mikroizkopavanjih arheoloških žar, ki so izvedena s pomočjo posnetkov narejenih z računalniško tomografijo. Gre torej za preplet ne destruktivne analitske metode, tj. računalniške tomografije (CT) z destruktivnim postopkom arheoloških (mikro) izkopavanj. Osredni predmet preučevanja je prazgodovinski plani žarni grob 137, najden med izkopavanji leta 2005 na Kapiteljski njivi v Novem mestu. Žara iz groba skupaj s celotnim polnilom je bila skenirana s pomočjo tomografa v Univerzitetnem kliničnem centru v Ljubljani. Pridobljeni posnetki so nam predstavljali izhodišče za načrtovanje in izvedbo mikroizkopavanj. Med izkopavanji žare smo sproti primerjali opažanja s CT posnetki ter beležili skladnosti in razlike med CT posnetkom in dejanskim fizičnim stanjem ostalin. Pomemben del predstavljajo tudi poizkopavalni postopki, med katerimi so pranje in sušenje keramike, izris keramike in bronastih predmetov, flotiranje in mokro sejanje sedimentov, pregled flotiranih vzorcev, pregled kosti, 3D rekonstrukcija in analize posnetka računalniške tomografije. Računalniška tomografija je analitska metoda, ki nam omogoča nedestruktiven vpogled v notranjost posameznega predmeta oziroma najdbe, ali pa celotnega konteksta, kot je v našem primeru prazgodovinska žara s celotnim polnilom. Nedestruktivnost omogoča ohranjanje predmeta za prihodnje analize, ki se tekom časa ves čas razvijajo, nadgrajujejo, hkrati pa se izumljajo nove, s katerimi bomo morda lahko prišli do novih, natančnejših rezultatov.

Title:Methodological framework for the use of computed tomography and micro-excavations to enhance the understanding of urn burials in the late prehistory : the case of grave 137 from Kapiteljska njiva in Novo mesto
Abstract:
In my master’s thesis, I focus on the methodology applied in the micro-excavation of archaeological urns, carried out with the aid of computed tomography (CT) imaging. This approach combines a non-destructive analytical method, computed tomography (CT) with a destructive procedure, namely archaeological (micro)excavation. The central subject of this study is the prehistoric urn grave 137, discovered during excavations in 2005 at Kapiteljska njiva in Novo mesto. The urn from this grave, together with its complete fill, was scanned using a CT scanner at the University Medical Centre in Ljubljana. The obtained scans served as the basis for planning and conducting the micro-excavations. During the excavation of the urn, observations were systematically compared with the CT images, while both consistencies and discrepancies between the scans and the actual physical condition of the remains were recorded. An important part of the research also involves post-excavation procedures, including flotation and wet sieving, drying and examination of samples, measurement of radiological density for selected objects, and related analyses. Computed tomography is an analytical method that enables non-destructive insight into the interior of individual objects or finds, or into entire contexts, as in this case of the prehistoric urn with its complete fill. Its non-destructive nature allows the preservation of the object for future analyses, which are continually being refined and expanded, while new techniques are being developed that may yield more precise results.
