Handling research data is becoming an increasingly important part of the scientific research process. In this study, we wanted to find out what are the current practices of researchers in the humanities and social sciences when it comes to handling research data, how familiar they are with the field, and what help and support they would need to handle research data with confidence. We also wanted to find out how researchers see the role of the academic library in this field. Data was collected through a survey conducted from November 2024 to February 2025 among faculty members at the University of Ljubljana who conduct research in the fields of humanities or social sciences. We found that the surveyed researchers are often unsure about how to approach activities related to research data and perceive their knowledge of certain aspects of research data handling as limited. Nevertheless, most respondents have already shared their research data and have encountered research data management planning. The researchers surveyed would need services covering all aspects of research data management. They also consider that while it is important to find information in the library, only a few have chosen to search for information in the library. The survey provides an overview of the current situation in the humanities and social sciences at the University of Ljubljana and provides a basis for the development of services to respond to the needs of researchers in this field in the future.
