The master’s thesis examines the geographical aspects of urban trees in Ljubljana, focusing on
their spatial significance, ecological function, and role in the urban environment. Ljubljana was
chosen as the study area due to its abundant green spaces and strong commitment to sustainable
urban planning. The theoretical part of the research analyzes the importance of urban trees and
their impact on microclimate, biodiversity, and quality of urban life. Special emphasis was
placed on selecting key tree specimens based on their height, aesthetics, age, and ecological
significance. We examined existing trees and explored their characteristics, roles in urban
spaces, and importance to the local community. The collected data are integrated into a digital
application, where individual trees are presented with images, descriptions, and key
information.
The results of this study contribute to a better understanding of the spatial distribution and
significance of urban trees, while offering a practical tool for future sustainable urban
vegetation planning in Ljubljana.
