In journalism, artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming integrated into the news production process and functioning of the media. Among journalists, it is increasingly being adopted as a tool to alleviate and enhance their efficiency of their workload. However, its use also raises a lot of concerns and dilemmas. The aim of this master's thesis was to conduct a qualitative analysis to explore how digital journalists at newspaper houses in Slovenia understand AI as a technological innovation, and to assess their view of changes in their workflow due to the development of AI. Through semi-structured interviews, the results showed that the majority of digital journalists perceive artificial intelligence as a tool to support their work. A minority of digital journalists, however, perceive it as a potential threat to the journalism profession. In both cases, digital journalists at newspaper houses face a lot of dilemmas when using artificial intelligence. Issues of information credibility, topic simplification, question of authorship, deterioration of journalism quality, unknown and unverified sources, article plagiarism between journalists – these are all dilemmas that arise for the interviewed journalists from newspaper houses. Despite technology increasingly penetrating the process of journalistic work as an aid to workload, digital journalists remain aware that AI tools in the journalism profession need to be approached with great discretion and professional integrity.
