Abstract

Title:Fake news as a form of information operation: the case of 2016 US elections
Abstract:
Fake news became better known to the world public with the 2016 U.S. presidential election, when, according to a certain section of the U.S. population, it was supposed to foster the final outcome of the election. The spread of false and misleading news can be attributed to the development of information and communication technology, especially the World Wide Web and related social networks. Thus, the World Wide Web is an effective medium through which individuals create false and misleading news and information, and use social networks as a tool to propagate them. The main goal of the master's thesis is the conceptual inclusion of fake news in the framework of information operations within 2016 U.S. election . In this context, a detailed description of individual forms of information operations as well as individual types of fake news is presented. The usefulness of this concept was demonstrated in the 2016 U.S. election, when the spread and use of fake news via social media skyrocketed. The Russian Internet Research Agency tried to influence the perception, behavior and thinking of American voters by clearly and systematically using the concept of fake news, with the use of social networks Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as the main tools for propagating fake news.
