Abstract
Empirični del raziskuje sodobne oblike čarovništva na Slovenskem, njihov kulturni pomen, simboliko in psihološko-kognitivno ozadje prakticiranja tovrstnih praks v sodobni družbi.

Title:
Contemporary witchcraft in Slovenia
Abstract:
Witchcraft, as a universal cultural phenomenon, has accompanied humanity since its earliest beginnings, manifesting in diverse forms and contexts throughout history. Regardless of geographic or religious specifics, its fundamental purpose remains associated with exerting influence over natural phenomena, social conditions, and spiritual forces. This master’s thesis focuses on the historical development of witchcraft practices in the Slovenian cultural space, analysing both archaic and contemporary manifestations. The theoretical part presents the development of witchcraft in Slovenia and Western world from prehistory to the 21st century, with particular emphasis on the persecution of witches and witch trials during the Middle Ages and early modern period. The empirical section explores contemporary forms of witchcraft in Slovenia, their cultural significance, symbolic dimensions, and the psychological-cognitive background of these practices in modern society. The thesis highlights that, despite scientific and technological advancement, witchcraft persists as an element of collective consciousness and individual spiritual pursuit, as evidenced by the growing interest in alternative spiritualities in the 21st century.
