Abstract

Title:Comparison of modulation schemes used in class D audio amplifiers
Abstract:
When designing a class D amplifier, we are first faced with choosing a modulation scheme. In this work we have built LTSpice simulation models utilizing three different modulation schemes, to aid with that decision. We then carried out calculations of harmonic and intermodulation distortion for each topology using LTSpice and Matlab. The introductory chapters present the different building blocks of class D amplifiers as well as how and why we chose the components for the simulation. Further chapters describe and analyze the different modulation schemes in use. Based on data gathered and other characteristics found in literature we have gained a good overview of the advantages and disadvantages of different modulation schemes. In the future this will aid us in choosing the most appropriate modulation scheme based on required amplifier characteristics.
