Abstract

Title:Optimization of roller coating parameters for improved surface treatment quality
Abstract:
In the thesis, we studied the operation of a roller coater used for applying UV coatings onto a wood-based substrates and investigated possibilities for improving the process. The aim of the study was to determine the optimum machine settings in order to achieve a uniform application and a good final surface appearance. First, we adjusted the contact between the application roller and the workpiece, as well as the contact between the dosing roller and the application roller, and then the appropriate speeds were determined. It turned out that the conveyor belt and the application roller must have the same speed, which should be between 8 m/min and 12 m/min, while the speed of the dosing roller should be about half as much. The results confirmed that the correct setting of the speed and mechanical elements enables high-quality coating application. We also found that it is necessary to check and readjust all settings after each cleaning or replacement of the application roller, as this ensures repeatable operation and consistent coating. Test applications are also important, as they allow precise adjustment of parameters and reduce the possibility of errors during operation. To summarize, regular maintenance, correct adjustment, and testing contribute significantly to better quality, lower material consumption, and enhanced efficiency of the wood coating process with UV lacquers.
