Abstract

Title:The contrast between visual aesthetics and emotional weight: the effect of combining beauty and bitterness in animation / The Deep Imprint of the Face
Abstract:
The Master's thesis is divided into two parts, theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, The contrast between visual aesthetics and emotional weight: The effect of the combination of beauty and bitterness in animation, I explore the visual impact of animated films on the viewer and the role of moving images in evoking emotions and conveying complex messages. The theoretical work aims to show how the aesthetics of contrast influence the understanding and perception of difficult themes presented through animated works. In the theoretical part, I explore the role of animation in telling stories with heavier themes, the influence of the choice of visual style and how visual contrasts influence the interpretation and emotional impact of an animated work. In the practical part, the short animated film The Deep Imprint of the Face, I visually present the concepts explored in the theoretical part. The film consists of five sequences and deals with themes of growing up and perceiving the world through the eyes of a student on her way to adulthood. Throughout the story we follow a snail as he travels through different worlds, searching for meaning and inspiration, and overcoming the obstacles life brings him. The aim of this practical work is to use visually aesthetic animation to illustrate complex and difficult themes and to explore how the contrast between visual beauty and emotional weight can affect the viewer's experience of the story.
