This thesis examines the concept of Stoic apatheia and the passages in which it appears in Marcus Aurelius’ Meditations. The first part introduces the period of Stoic philosophy and its fundamental principles, with particular emphasis on ethics and the understanding of virtue as the sole true good. The central section is devoted to the Stoic conception of the passions, pathe, and, through this, to the notion of freedom from them, apatheia. The second part analyzes selected passages from the Meditations that reflect this attitude. The aim of the thesis is thus to demonstrate what the Stoic theory of the passions entails and how it is concretely expressed in the thought of Marcus Aurelius.
