This master’s thesis analyzes the role of music within the Scout Association of Slovenia (ZTS), considering it as an important factor in the education, community building, and identity of young people. The study is based on an analysis of historical and internal documents of ZTS, songbooks, an online survey, and ethnographic observations. Music in scouting is present in official programs, spontaneous activities, rituals, workshops, and events. The research also highlights local variations of songs and the role of self-taught guitarists and other musical leaders. The systematically compiled repertoire of songbooks includes official anthems, humorous and ritual songs, improvised songs, as well as folk and popular songs. Music is primarily transmitted orally across generations, which enables diversity and variety in music-making practices.
