Abstract

Title:Search for doubly charged Higgs bosons with mixed decays
Abstract:
This work presents a search for hybridly decaying doubly charged Higgs bosons as predicted by type-II seesaw models. The analysis is based on a comparison of theoretical predictions with ATLAS detector data, collected between 2015 and 2018 during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider. We describe the process of numerical modeling of the underlying physics processes and their measurements within the ATLAS simulation chain. An examination of intermediate simulation results motivates the definition of the signal region targeting events with two lepton final states. The dataset used in the statistical analysis is further refined using machine learning classification methods to identify the doubly charged Higgs bosons decaying to W boson pairs, which in turn decay hadronically into four jets. Statistical analyses of the measurements show no evidence for signals of new physics within the sensitivity of this study. The work concludes with an estimate of the signal exclusion limit at 1000 GeV.
