The thesis discusses the Lutrovska Cellar at Sevnica Castle as a significant example of Protestant art, focusing on the conservation-restoration intervention on fragment A13. The painting features strong Protestant iconography and shows evidence of multiple past interventions. The focus was on cleaning methods using water-based gels, based on the approaches of Wolbers and Cremonesi. Tests with various aqueous systems showed that the paint layer is sensitive to low pH, which led to the use of buffered solutions. Due to the surface’s porosity and risk of mold development, gels proved less suitable. Gel cleaning was successfully applied to the Summer medallion from Ljubljana, included as an additional case study. The thesis combines a theoretical overview with the practical application of modern methods, emphasizing safer and more selective approaches. The findings contribute to understanding the condition of preservation, material identification, and the potential further development of methods in conservation-restoration practice.
