Abstract

Title:Developing plane geometry concepts in preschool education through the use of tangrams
Abstract:
Geometry is part of the mathematics curriculum and offers a wide range of activities that, taking into account the child's development of geometric thinking and with well-planned activities, allow children to develop geometric concepts that can be linked together to build on their knowledge. In the thesis entitled Developing Plane Geometry Concepts in Preschool Education Through the Use of Tangrams, we presented the development of geometric thinking and the teaching of geometric concepts in preschool children, focusing on van Hiele's theory. We also presented the tangram and the different ways of using it. Play plays an important role in the teaching of geometry, where children use different materials to learn and develop geometric concepts. Children encounter geometry in their daily lives, especially in play, where they often handle different materials. Adults have an important role to play in this context, choosing the appropriate materials and activities to enable children to explore and play, and develop their concepts. The aim of this thesis was to design an approach for developing plane geometry concepts in preschool education using tangram, to determine the progress of preschool children in their knowledge of plane geometry, and to find out how children evaluate their progress in their knowledge of plane geometry. The sample of the study consists of 20 children, aged 56, attending a public kindergarten.
