Tarok is one of the oldest card games. It was created in the 15th century and gained popularity worldwide almost immediately. The tarok card deck changed and developed over the years, before it evolved into the version we know today. We found that tarok is still a very popular game today, but many younger generations are not familiar with it. Therefore, the primary goal of the thesis was to increase awareness of the tarok game and inspire younger generations to learn how to play it. To achieve this, we created our own unique tarok card deck called Animal Tarok. In the theoretical part, we researched the tarok card deck, its history worldwide and in Slovenia, the process of designing playing cards, and the use of QR codes. Based on our research, we then designed our custom 54-card tarok deck, playing instructions, which are accessible via QR code, and then we also designed the packaging. We used Adobe Illustrator in Adobe InDesign to design the playing cards and instructions, and EngView for the packaging. Finally, we analyzed our created set of playing cards with a short survey. We believe that our cards will inspire a younger generation to learn to play one of the oldest card games – tarok, which was also our primary goal.
