The present thesis is an attempt to establish a set of guidelines that could be used to reduce the rate of digital exclusion among the general population. In particular, it focusses on the digital experience of senior users, for whom ill-adapted and ill-conceived user interfaces can easily result in limited access to vital services and important information. The strategy documents of the Republic of Slovenia predict that the majority of public services will be proceeding digitally within the next few years, yet the digital competence of citizens remains low. Accordingly, the need for accessible user interfaces is growing. The implementation of accessibility measures, however, is dependent upon a special skillset and extensive testing that not many developers, particularly small companies, can afford. I have therefore compiled a list of concrete and simple guidelines that enable improving user interfaces without requiring specialist knowledge or incurring extra costs in the process of designing websites and applications.
