Abstract

Title:Himera : diplomsko delo
Abstract:
In this thesis, I will discuss the ancient Greek city located in the north of the island of Sicily. It existed for only about 250 years but was a witness and a participant in both major wars that took place during the classical Greek period. In the so-called Greco-Persian Wars it emerged on the side of the victors, and in the Peloponnesian War, it was an ally of Sparta. It is best known for two Battles at Himera the first one took place in 480 BC, and the second, which tragically ended its existence in 409 BC. Himera has experienced various forms of dominance, from domestic oligarchy all the way to the foreign tyranny. It was also homeland of one of the most important poets of the 6th century, Stesichorus, and the multiple Olympic champion Ergoteles.
