The thesis examines the characteristics of lexis in firefighting. The basic theoretical premises are presented – lexemes, their meanings, formation and structure. At the beginning, the process of forming, establishing, and standardizing of firefighting lexis is explained. A list of lexical units that are problematic from various aspects and therefore interesting for research has been formed. The purpose of the analysis of the lexis of this field was to determine how this lexis differs from other fields and to highlight and describe its special features. The main source of analysis of terms was Gasilski terminološki slovar (The Firefighting Terminological Dictionary). The conclusion includes suggestions for possible additions to the dictionary – some phrases, jargon expressions and fixed (sentence) units.
