The thesis examines Memorial Church of the Holy Spirit in Javorca and its author, the Viennese stage designer Remigius Geyling. Built during the First World War on the Isonzo Front at the initiative of soldiers and under the constraints of wartime conditions, the church reflects the stylistic features of the Vienna Secession and the influence of the Wiener Werkstätte. The thesis aims to place Geyling’s artistic development within the social and cultural context of Vienna at the turn of the century. Through the analysis of his life, work and collaborations with other artists, the thesis highlights his approach to the architectural and interior design of the church and examines its affinities with other examples of sacral architecture of the period.
