Abstract

Title:Foster families
Abstract:
The thesis deals with foster families and their impact on children's development. Foster care is a special form of family care for children who are temporarily unable to live with their biological family. Foster families provide security, support and development opportunities and enables contact with the primary family. The emphasis is on stability, attachment and the role of professional services. The theoretical part presents the definition of fostering and the procedure for placing a child in a foster family, the rights and duties of both the foster family and the child, and the challenges and opportunities of fostering in Slovenia. I have highlighted the legislative basis and the role of social workers, whose work ensures appropriate placement, monitors the child's welfare and helps to resolve any problems. In the empirical part, I used qualitative research and interviews to explore the experience of foster parents, their motivations, challenges and support from the state. Emphasis I focused on children's transitions between foster and biological families.
