The master's thesis titled Tablecloth in Context of Textile Installation is based on the conceptual development, design, and installation process of the textile installation The Tablecloth of Morpheus, which had its opening on June 21, 2025, as part of the BIEN Biennial of Textile Art, at the Lantieri Palace in Gorizia, Italy, within the framework of the European Capital of Culture Nova Gorica–Gorizia 2025. The project focuses on the ancient element of the tablecloth, which the installation presents as a ceremonial object of gathering and interpersonal dialogue. The tablecloth is a textile element that has brought people together for centuries. Throughout history, tablecloths have accompanied significant events such as celebrations, holidays, births, weddings, ritual ceremonies, and even funerals.
The theoretical part of the thesis presents the historical development of tablecloths, their function, and their significance and role in our society. The theoretical part then focuses on installation art, its development and influence on contemporary textile art. The experimental part of the thesis comprises a description and analysis of the creative process and realization, along with visual documentation of the textile installation, which places the artist-designed tablecloth at the centre.
