Abstract
Digitalne reprodukcije končnih odtisov so omogočile arhiviranje in predstavitev odtisov v digitalni obliki.

Title:Use of cyanotype in creating photographic series on theme of contemplation
Abstract:
In this diploma thesis, we explored the theory and development of cyanotype, as well as the potential use of this technique as an artistic expression to create a photographic series on the theme of contemplation. The aim of the study was to visually explore the connection between inner experience and the external world through the analogue photographic printing process. By combining self-portraits with motifs from nature, we created cyanotype print compositions that blend both worlds into an aesthetically and thematically coherent whole. The experimental part of the research was based on testing and exploring the effect of various factors on the quality such as paper and chemical selection, exposure time, distance from the light source and the use of an acidic bath for washing. We used the analogue Herschel cyanotype technique, while also conducting systematic comparative tests, which included the use of test strips, a 21-step tonal scale and negatives created in Adobe Photoshop programme. The results showed that optimal print quality is achieved through a well-considered combination of key factors that have been tested and balanced: a 15-minute exposure time; a 1 minute, 10 second acidic bath using a 5% acetic acid and water solution in a 1:3 ratio; a distance of 18 cm from the light source; and selecting the right hot pressed paper with a high cotton content. This combination ensures a high level of contrast and a balanced tonal range, both of which were essential for the desired visual effect of the series. The digital reproductions of the final prints enabled archiving and presentation of works in digital form. Through this study we successfully researched the theory of cyanotype, confirmed the practical value of it as a contemporary artistic medium and achieved all set goals by combining technical research with introspective and visual storytelling.
