This master's thesis explores the role of relational leadership in Slovenian micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with a focus on emotional intelligence, the adaptation of communication styles, and the development of leadership competencies through the Lead2Grow program. The study emphasizes the specific characteristics of SMEs, where smaller organizational size, closer interpersonal relationships, and greater managerial flexibility make the quality of relationships and psychological safety especially important.
The thesis is based on the assumption that leadership in SMEs often relies on intuition and personal experience, with a lack of systematic development of soft skills. The main goal of the research is to examine the impact of the Lead2Grow program on how leaders perceive their own leadership style, and how employees perceive changes in workplace relationships and communication. A mixed-methods approach was applied: semi-structured interviews were conducted with managers, and a questionnaire was distributed among employees.
After participating in the Lead2Grow program, managers showed improved use of feedback and strengthened emotional intelligence in practice. Employees reported higher relationship quality and more open communication. The findings confirm the positive impact of structured leadership development on organizational climate, employee commitment, and engagement in SMEs.
