TV Koper-Capodistria operates within the Regional RTV Center of the public institution RTV
Slovenia and produces two programs, one in Slovenian and one in Italian. It covers the southern
coastal region and informs the regional community about events at the regional and crossborder
level. It operates in a specific multicultural border area, which is also bilingual, and
therefore plays a key role in informing members of the Italian minority and Slovenes living
abroad. The master's thesis explores the role and importance of regional television for the
regional community and vice versa. In the theoretical-conceptual part, with the help of scientific
literature, it defines the basic functions of regional media, especially television, in the
communities in which they operate, and what significance and role they have for members of
the community. It also discusses the impact of digitization on the media landscape and
highlights the fundamental characteristics of public media. The research is based on two
scientific research methods, in-depth interviews, and focus groups. The main purpose of the
master's thesis was to determine what role and significance editors and journalists attribute to
regional television and what significance it has for selected representatives of the regional
community. The key findings confirm certain assumptions from the theoretical and conceptual
part of the thesis regarding the role and significance of regional television for the community.
They indicate that TV Koper-Capodistria remains important to the regional community, but as
traditional linear television, it is gradually losing its presence and will therefore have to continue
adapting its content to attract new audiences.
