The master's thesis relates to the topic of involuntary hospitalizations in a psychiatric hospital.
With the research, I wanted to gain opinions, experience and new insights into involuntary hospitalizations in psychiatric hospitals. In the theoretical introduction, I related to theoretical concepts related to mental health and mental illness. In the continuation of the theoretical
introduction, I defined hospitalization in a psychiatric hospital and involuntary hospitalization. In my master's thesis, I describe in more detail the role of social work in the field of working with people with mental health problems. I conclude the theoretical part with the topic of
teamwork, as it is an important topic of my research. Through research, I wanted to find out how hospitalizations against the patient's will are defined by social workers and what their opinion about them is. I also wanted to find out what their role is in the process and how they understand and treat the seizure of power. I am also interested in how cooperation with other professions takes place and whether they notice an increase in hospitalizations against the
patients' will at different times. In the empirical part of the research, I presented the results obtained by using the questioning method on a random sample of seven participants in the research. I have come to the realization that most social workers have a positive opinion about involuntary hospitalization. In their opinion, hospitalization against the will of the patient represents the possibility of protecting a person when their health is so bad that they could harm themselves or others. I also realized that the procedures are very protected, so there is almost
no chance of abuse. Despite the fact that the profession of social work is not included in the procedure of involuntary hospitalization, social workers play an important role during the treatment of a person in the hospital. They establish a working relationship with users when people need support, conversation or solving of social care related problems. Their role is also to connect and work with other disciplines to achieve more comprehensive assistance to the
user. Despite the awareness that the procedures are for the benefit of users, they understand that such procedures can leave users with a traumatic experience. With the results of the research, I gained new knowledge about how involuntary hospitalization procedures take place and what the role of social work in them is. I also expanded my knowledge on topics related to teamwork. The data will also be useful for the social work profession, as I gained additional insight,
perspective of social workers on involuntary hospitalization procedures, which are still very stigmatized in society.
